“Ubisoft” announced the sequel of their mix-reviewed title “Watch Dogs” recently, and the story will take place in San Francisco, California. The location is a stark departure from the cold, dull climate of Chicago where the first game was set. Supposedly, part of the inspiration for the change in setting is the presence of tech experts in Silicon Valley, who the developer says have tendencies similar to hackers.
The Financial Post highlights the difference that the new scenery affords the game, particularly in terms of how much sunnier and brighter the new location was compared to the gloomy theme that the previous entry was known for. Jonathan Morin, the creative director of the game said that the San Francisco Bay Area was perfect as a location where technological marvels and terror collides, even likening the brains behind some of the most successful tech startups to hackers.
“Of the people who shaped what Silicon Valley is today, almost all came from that natural tendency of being a hacker. All of these ideals came from this ability to question any preconceived rules to make something better,” Morin said.
Kotaku also made a rundown of some of the things that have been revealed about the game thus far, including the names of the characters and their motivations. For starters, the main character this time around is Marcus Holloway. He is an African-American who was falsely accused of a crime and so now, he is either trying to prove that he is innocent by hacking everything in sight or he is just trying to get some payback.
Dedsec will still be playing a role in this game since Marcus is part of the hacker group as well. The developers say that there will be more focus on the anarchy aspect of hacking though, so players can expect to be able to hack a lot more stuff and to have a lot more fun.
